Find It Fast
This year some of our staff attended the Annual Autism Conference. It was a great experience with a lot of information and refresher courses.
Meet Mrs. Diamond’s Class! We’re proud to announce our Classroom Spotlight. Each month we will highlight a different class within the school, sharing some of the great things they are doing! Students in Miss Kim’s class are having fun practicing their letters by finding them on the labels of their favorite snacks! Oliver and Isaac are learning numbers by coloring numbered leaves and matching them to a tree!
Mrs. Paula Hill shared her expertise with a group of educators at the NJEA Annual Conference in Atlantic City. Her presentation was titled, The School Avoidant Child: Behavior Intervention and Teamwork is Key. This interactive session educated participants on successful interventions to support students who are refusing to attend school for a variety of reasons. Components of the workshop included training on the core principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, developing an understanding of Anxiety-based disorders, Identifying the function of the behaviors and development of positive interventions.
AT A GLANCE

Happy late Fall to our SBJC Maywood Family! We are already well into the 2019-20 School Year and lots of great things are happening here at our Campus. Students and staff are settled in and working hard. Student programming and academics are in full swing, as are all the necessary support services. Back in July, we welcomed consultants from the Rutgers University Douglass Developmental Center to come in and conduct a program evaluation. They observed within classrooms and met with staff to learn more about our programs. They have shared a report summarizing and including recommendations for consideration as we move forward with the ongoing process of program improvement. Our administrative team and a school-based team have reviewed the report and made further recommendations. Similar program evaluations have been conducted at our Middle/High School and Early Childhood Centers and we look forward to implementing some key improvements. On December 19th, we will welcome our friends from the KPMG Corporation. They visit us each year to provide the students with books, read to them in the classrooms, and to join us for a Holiday sing-a-long. It’s a great way for us to kick off the holidays … and on that note … we wish you and yours only the best in the upcoming new year. Together, we can make 2020 a great one for your child. We look forward to our continued collaboration!
