This is Sarah-Ann Rizzolo, SBJC Teacher/Educational Services Professionals Recognition Program Selection

"I graduated Montclair State University in 2006 with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education K-6. I applied to SBJC and received a position as a teaching assistant at the Maywood Campus in November 2007 and loved working with the students and staff there. I worked primarily in ABA with preschool and elementary level students and assisted a number of teachers over a 7 year period. I am so thankful for that time, as I was able to learn so much and be mentored by some very talented educators. However, at that point I had known for awhile that I was ready for a head teacher position. In 2013 I applied to the Montclair State University Graduate program to receive a certification in Teacher of Students with Disabilities K6. Roughly half way through the program, I applied for a Preschool ABA head teacher position at the Maywood campus, which I received in January of 2015. I was transferred to the Primetime ER campus the following school year where I continued to teach Preschool ABA. After I completed The TOSD program at MSU, I applied for classes to receive my P-3 certification as well. With only 4 more classes needed to complete the Masters program, I went ahead to graduate with an MEd in January of 2019. I also received my NJ State Tenure the same month. It’s certainly been a wild ride! This journey has been challenging, yet rewarding in so many ways. My favorite thing about working with young students on the Autism Spectrum is how much growth I see in them over the course of a school year and the fact that they give me reasons to smile everyday. I want to thank those at SBJC, especially both Scott Rossig and Lorraine Rake. Working under their supervision has been instrumental to my growth in this profession. I also want to thank my colleagues, my students and their families and all those who nominated me. It is a huge honor and I am grateful!"
