It is the goal of the South Bergen Jointure Commission faculty, staff, and administration to provide the highest quality of education, training, and care for our students.
The SBJC Maywood Campus houses programs for children diagnosed as being on the Autism Spectrum as well as for those with Behavioral Disabilities and Diagnoses in grades Pre-K through 5.
Our mission is to provide a comprehensive education that supports academic, behavioral, social and communicative growth in a supportive and therapeutic environment. We strongly believe that effective behavior change is a foundation to academic and social success. To this end, we believe that behavior change occurs via three main avenues -- a strong behavioral component (functional assessment of problem behavior, positive behavior supports, school-wide behavior supports, individual behavior plans), a comprehensive therapeutic program (individual and small group counseling, social skills education, counselor availability throughout the school day), and medical supports (weekly, on-site support from Pediatric Psychiatric Nurse Consultant for evaluation, medication prescribing and monitoring). The principles of Applied Behavior Analysis are the foundation for teaching and behavioral support throughout our programs. We firmly believe in the education and support of the whole child and family. Our concerns are not only school-based performance, but also in ensuring that families are supported in the home and community as well.
