• OUR PROGRAM

The South Bergen Jointure Commission is a school district whose classrooms are not defined by walls and whose students are not defined by their classifications. Our Lodi Campus educates students in grades 6th through 12th grade in our Autism, ERI, and MD programs, in addition to housing our 18-21 STARs Transition Program. In offering comprehensive services addressing each student’s individual needs, our dedicated Lodi Campus teams are all focused on empowering each child to unlock their full potential as they prepare to transition to adulthood.

Our Middle/High School program offers a continuum of classroom types within our campus. We have several self-contained classrooms that offer highly structured learning environments centered around the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. We also have a majority of our classes following a daily schedule where students transition between different classrooms, similar to a traditional high school setting. We differentiate the learning experience to each students' needs in addition to tailoring teaching styles and maintaining smaller class sizes. Our focus in all of our classrooms is to foster positive growth and achievement, emphasizing each student's strengths and boosting their self-confidence.

The SBJC Lodi Campus empowers students to thrive through:

    • Academic Excellence: Providing a strong foundation for academic success through effective teaching and personalized learning.
    • Social Interaction: Fostering positive social interactions within the classroom and broader school community.
    • Transition Planning: Equipping students with the necessary skills to navigate future educational or vocational opportunities.

    ACADEMICS

Our highly qualified and certified teachers ensure that every student's education is based on the goals set forth in their IEPs as well as those aligned with NJ Core Curriculum Standards. Instruction is tailored to each student's unique needs, fostering a well-rounded education.

Our Lodi Campus provides instruction in various subjects, including:

    • Language Arts
    • Mathematics
    • Social Studies
    • Science
    • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math)
    • Music
    • Art
    • Life Skills
    • Social Skills

Students benefit from a flexible learning approach, receiving instruction individually, in small groups, or within the entire class, depending on the situation and their specific needs. Our ultimate aim is to equip students with the skills and confidence necessary to transition into a less restrictive learning environment.

    COMMUNITY-BASED INSTRUCTION

Community-based instruction (CBI) is an educational approach that involves teaching and learning in community settings rather than exclusively in the classroom. SBJC Middle/High School offers community-based instruction, allowing students to participate in practical activities directly linked to their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. CBI focuses on students' individual needs in the following areas:

    • Vocational Skills: Develop job-related skills and explore potential career paths.
    • Domestic Life Skills: Learn practical skills necessary for daily living.
    • Community Engagement: Gain experience interacting and contributing within the community.
    • Recreation and Leisure: Explore recreational activities and pursue personal interests.
